Stages of labor

Prodromal stage
- Irregular contractions that can last for days
- The intensity varies from woman to woman
- Not all pregnant people experience such complications
Latent stage
- Rhythmic and spaced contractions
- Pregnant woman is able to eat and interact
Active stage
- Stronger and more rhythmic contractions
- Increased pain intensity
- Woman enters a trance, no longer talking or interaction
Expulsion
- Urge to push
- Contractions, usually even less spaced
- Burning sensation as the baby passes through
Placental stage
- Birth of the placenta marks the end of labor
- Cramps are usually milder
- No burning sensation
